Tuition Fees and Expenses

Tuition rates

For students entering from the 2026 academic year

• Thai nationals: 36,000 THB per semester

• Foreign nationals: 56,000 THB per semester

The fees above do not include accommodation, study materials for some courses, or optional field studies and trips (not mandatory). The following are examples of possible costs associated with voluntary field studies or trips organised by BAHS staff:

• Course textbook (usually only in the 1st year): 200 – 400 THB per course
• Flights from Chiang Mai to Bangkok (round trip): 2,500 – 4,000 THB
• Flights from Chiang Mai to southern provinces of Thailand: 3,500 – 5,000 THB
• Skytrain and underground train fares in Bangkok: 35 – 50 THB per trip
• Shared accommodation in other cities in Thailand: 400 – 800 THB per night
• Entry fees for museums and galleries: 100 – 300 THB

For these trips, staff members who organise them will inform interested students in advance about the total costs and which items will be subsidised by the BAHS programme.


Tuition fee payment

Chiang Mai University usually sends a summary of tuition fees and payment methods a few weeks after the start of each semester. Students can pay directly via QR code linked to Thai banks or by using credit cards (VISA or Mastercard).

Other expenses

Studying at Chiang Mai University also involves other additional expenses beyond tuition fees. The following items and rates are the estimations of the costs of living in or near Chiang Mai University.

Course textbook (usually only for 1st Year): 200 - 400 THB per course
On-campus dorm: 2,000 - 5,000 THB per month
Off-campus dorm: 3,000 - 6,000 THB per month
Meal at CMU Food Center: 30 - 50 THB per menu
Coffee on campus: 40 - 60 THB per cup
CMU shuttle bus: Free
Red taxi (shared with otheres) for short trip outside campus: 20 - 40 THB per trip
Shared ride serevice (via applications): 100 THB per 2 KM
Airport taxi from CNX to CMU: 150 THB per trip
Movie at commercial cinema theatre: 150 - 300 THB per seat

Financial supports


Financial Support and Awards

Each year, the BAHS programme allocates a portion of its budget to support Studentship Awards. These awards are open for students to apply and are intended to recognise academic commitment, community engagement, or specific project initiatives. The amount and number of awards may vary annually, depending on the programme’s budget allocation for that year.

National Student Loan Scheme for Thai Nationals

Thai students whose families are experiencing financial difficulties may apply for the National Student Loan Scheme for Thai Nationals (กยศ). Applicants must meet certain conditions and are subject to a maximum loan limit.

Faculty of Humanities Emergency Loan

The Faculty of Humanities also provides financial assistance for students facing temporary financial emergencies. This loan typically covers essential daily expenses, helping students to continue their studies in the Faculty.
